Michael Bagley combines his love of photography and years of work as a commercial boat captain to create unique images of marine and nautical subjects.
Beginning with a summer job on a sportfishing boat in Nantucket and continuing through most of his adult life, Mike has spent thousands of days on the water in New England, New Jersey, the Chesapeake Bay, and the Caribbean. He earned his Coast Guard Master’s license in 1995, and between 1997 and 2005 he was the full-time captain of the 76′ Schooner, Imagine…!, sailing out of Annapolis, Maryland. During that time, Mike honed his shipboard photographic skills and his understanding of the best way to capture all types of vessels. Now residing in New Jersey, Mike does his boating on Viewfinder, a 19′ Boston Whaler.
In 2009 Danise Cavallaro came aboard Viewfinder. Danise has had a passion for photography for many years, and has an exceptional eye for detail and the ways in which people, places and things interact with one another. Danise’s professional background includes teaching boat building in urban schools, and she is an alumna of Woodenboat School in Maine.
The Michael Bagley Photography team travels to locations up and down the east coast to shoot regattas and events. The agile Viewfinder enables them to capture the action of a beautiful sailboat, an exciting regatta or a classic parade without getting in the way. Their understanding of sailing, boats and boat “behavior” allows them to be in the right place at the right time to capture the right images.
